Voter registration deadline is Oct. 24

By Daniel Wright Sr.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24 in what is being considered one of the most important elections for Commander-and-Chief in U.S. history.

Registrations must be postmarked or submitted to a California election office by that date, which is 15 days before Election Day, Nov. 8.

To register to vote in the state, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of California, at least 18 years old and not be on parole for a felony conviction.

You will need a California driver’s license number or California identification card number and your Social Security number.

You can register online or in person in English, Spanish and other languages. You have several options if you want to do it online:

rockthevote.com: It’s a national non-profit organization that “Builds the political power of young people.” This website is geared to get the younger generation interested in politics, and the overall voting process. It allows visitors the option to take the “Be seen. Be Heard.” pledge, promising to be informed, volunteer, watch debates, show up to the polls, and encourage others to get out and vote.

sdvote.com: It’s the website of the county’s Registrar of Voters. You can also check your registration status in the county through this site, and get a summary of everything that will be on the ballot.

registertovote.ca.gov: It’s the website to the California Secretary of State

A variety of organizations are registering people to vote in person, including some who set up tables at City College.
