Knights host Hancock in first round of the playoffs at home this Wednesday.

The City College men’s basketball team parlayed their undefeated-in-conference season into hosting the Hancock Bulldogs for round one of the regional playoffs by the California Community College Athletic Association. The game will be in the Harry West gym this Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. The Knights (20-8) are ranked 13th in the state and will take on a 20th ranked Bulldogs squad that went 16-13 (7-5 in conference) and finished conference play with three straight wins. The squad is going into the game on a high note. The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) awarded freshman guard Caleb Singleton and sophomore point guard Martin “Pooter” Thomas co-MVP honors last week. Thomas, a 5-foot-10 point guard, averaged 9.8 points and 5 assists per game. Singleton, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged a team-high 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. “This is one of the best things that ever happened to me,” expressed Thomas. “Now we’ve got to go handle business in the playoffs.” Singleton finished as one of the hottest shooters in the region, maintaining a 46.5 shooting percentage from three-point range. “We’re just going to have to keep the drive,” stated Singleton.

Freshman guards Mike Scott and Chris Jones both received second team all-conference honors and Head Coach Mitch Charlens was voted the PCAC Coach of the Year. “Each year is its own adventure. It’s own experience,” relayed Charlens.
