Candidates sought to join ASG

What do you know about your Associated Student Government? Do you want to change things from the inside? Help it to continue its mission?
Student leaders, “are committed to serving and advocating for the student interest by promoting diversity, community and academic success!” according to the ASG mission statement.
You have the opportunity to participate starting March 4, when application packets become available for elections in April. The packets contain the application form, biography and signature pages.
Open positions include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, Inter Club Council president and 14 senators. These positions receive a monthly stipend: $200 per for the president, $150 for vice president, $125 treasurer and secretary, and $50 for senators.
Candidates must have a 2.0 grade point average and be carrying at least six units at City College.
Candidates for president and vice president have to submit 100 signatures and their year-long terms begin July 1. The other positions have to have to submit at least 50 signatures and begin in August.
Official campaign period is from April 4 to 19, and a candidates’ forum will be held in early April. The election is on April 20. Online voting will be available on City College’s website.Two dedicated computers for voting will be available in M-200.

The San Diego Community College District is the second-largest in the state. This year, City’s ASG will take part in the first district retreat, along with student leaders from Miramar and Mesa colleges, to identify what can be done at the district level to help students.

The ASG also sponsors and promotes among others activities: the Social Justice Conference (March 23-25); the Martin Luther King float; the science symposium (April 21); Psi Beta’s arts and crafts efforts in the community; the leadership submit and book fair in the fall; and legislative meetings that are open for all City students to attend.
