Vagina Monologue preview

Vagina Monologues comes to City College for one night only!

Mark your calendars for Friday, March 12, 2010, at 8PM, when City College will participate in V-Day, the global movement to end violence against women and girls, by presenting the play The Vagina Monologues at the Saville Theatre.
The hope is to make this event an annual offering. Director Katie Rodda explains, “The Vagina Monologues is much more than just a play. Playwright, Eve Ensler, gives away the rights to anyone who wants to produce the show as part of V-Day.”
The V-Day event is being organized the campus group Visionary Feminists. Auditions were held the second week of February with over 40 hopeful women showing up to be a part of the monumental event. “Ensler only has one stipulation,” Rodda continued, “that 10% of the proceeds will go back to V-Day’s support of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 90% will go to a local organization that stops and prevents violence against women.” Rodda has selected the Center for Community Solutions (www.ccssd.org) as their beneficiary.
Fellow campus professors Larissa Dorman, Kelly Mayhew and Sarah Pitcher will also be working on the project with Rodda, who makes her City College directorial debut, though her directing work has been seen around San Diego since the year 2000.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students, staff and military. For more information contact director Katie Rodda at 619-388-3088.
