Tennis raises money to fix courts

The City Knights men’s and women’s tennis teams came out Super Bowl Sunday to the campus tennis courts for their yearly fundraiser.

On hand were Brandon Lupian, men’s tennis coach, Gretchen Magers, women’s tennis coach as well as Kathy McGinnis, City College Dean of Athletics and Exercise Science.

This is the fourth year the tennis teams have held their fundraiser.  This year, the goal was to raise enough money for much needed repairs on courts one and two.

“Just the potential for injuries makes this a priority,” McGinnis said in reference to the cracked concrete on court two.

With help from a matching grant from The Greater San Diego Tennis Council along with private donations, McGinnis and the two teams hope to raise $4,700 for each of the courts.  After courts one and two are repaired, the other four courts should be repaired by the spring 2013 tennis season, according to McGinnis.
