Kensington is a charming little area that is located right by North park. The Kensington Cafe is hard to miss as you stroll down Adams Avenue, and it is quite the typical neighborhood restaurant.
The outdoor patio is ideal when there is a beautiful day and San Diego has plenty of those. Like any other breakfast eatery, the weekends can get pretty busy.
This restaurant is dog friendly, so feel free to bring along your furry friend on the patio. This place attracts a lot of hipsters, so it is a trendy little hangout.
The host wasn’t the nicest person, not necessarily mean, but not memorable. Personable employees add to the overall experience of a restaurant, so this was a bummer. But then again, it gets busy at the front as more and more guests arrive.
The drink menu had a variety of options to choose from. The spiced chai tea latte was not too sweet, but very delicious. They also serve alcoholic beverages, like mimosas and local beer.
The breakfast menu has a lot to offer, like waffles, egg scrambles, chilaquiles and other great dishes, and it is not as unhealthy as you would think, which is a plus. The food is fresh and everything is made to order.
The baked french toast was different from your typical french toast. It didn’t look remotely similar to others, but it was good. There was streusel on top, along with berries and walnuts.
At first, I wondered why it had the smallest side of syrup, but it was tasty enough to not put any syrup at all. Being uniquely different, it was actually a very good meal, but wasn’t the best french toast.
The Chilaquiles sounded promising, as always. It had corn tortilla strips, tossed in house made salsa, scrambled eggs, feta cheese, avocado, black beans and scallions. It was also a good dish, but again it wasn’t the best.
The waiter made up for the host’s lack of friendliness, which made the experience better.
The prices are moderate, food ranging from $3 to $9, and the portions are reasonable. You get quality food at a decent price, which is why the cafe is always doing good in business.
