For the second consecutive year, a VAMP (Video Audio Monologue Performance) showcase is being presented this October by San Diego City College this October.
In association with So Say We All, a literary and performing arts non-profit organization, the showcase is created with the objective of giving people an opportunity to share their words in an ambience created with visual projections and audio effects in order to enhance their stories and give the audience a quality event integrated with the San Diego City College Book Fair.
Submissions are open to City College students and staff members, who are encouraged to participate and write a creative non-fiction story between three to eight pages with the intention of performing it in front of an audience.
The stories that are being featured were selected in an anonymous manner by a jury integrated with SSWA members and professors from the campus English department, including Patricia McGhee and Nadia Mandalawi who were also performers at last year’s showcase.
“Last year we had about 50 people attending the show, I’ll love to see more people this year, maybe 70 to 100,” said McGhee about her expectations for this year’s show.
The VAMP showcase will take place on Oct.16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Although the venue it is still being determined.
“Maybe it’s going to be held on campus. We still have to confirm the venue,” said Mandalawi.
