VIDEO: City College bookstore holds treasure trove of holiday gift ideas

With more than just school supplies, look to the campus bookstore for City College logoed merchandise

The holiday season can be a tricky time of year to navigate, especially when it comes to finding affordable one-of-a-kind gifts for your family and friends.

Luckily for the San Diego City College community, City’s bookstore provides more than just books and school supplies for its students. Increasingly, families and faculty are looking for logoed merchandise to highlight and connect with City College.

Sol Madrid, supervisor for the City College bookstore, observed this trend and is doing his part to welcome students in hopes of building a stronger community.

“I’ve noticed that a lot of students like artsy types of things,” Madrid said. “I understand how valuable it is to have visibility, especially when it comes to clothing and having brand merchandise here at City College.”

Clothing lines and brands like Emblematic, LRG and Peanuts are prominent when looking through the inventory at the campus bookstore, making up “roughly 40% of the bookstore’s supply,” Madrid told CTM.

For students like Chris Gee who are looking for gifts for their family, the campus bookstore is the perfect place to find that rare artisanal-type of gift. Fortunately, the bookstore holds a little-known treasure trove of gift options perfect for any family member.

“I got two windbreakers,” Gee said. “I wanna rep (City College) and get merch for my mom. I just wish they had license plates.”

Finding the right gift can be tricky. For those students and family members who are short on time or are unable to shop in person, online shopping is available by clicking here or going to www.bookstore.sdccd.edu/city. Options for delivery by mail or in-person campus pickup are available.

The San Diego City College campus bookstore is open Monday – Thursday at 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and on Friday at 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

For the upcoming winter break, the campus store will be closed from December 23, 2024 – January 1, 2025, resuming regular hours on Jan 2, 2025.
