The City College Spanish Club organized a celebration on May 5 to commemorate the Battle of Puebla, where Mexico was able to defeat French forces. There were dancers, music playing, a dance competition, and an essay competition. Booths there sold food, clothing, jewelry, and instruments. A dance group of 16 salsa azteca dancers ended the events with a performance in elaborate costumes and headdresses, and with drums and other instruments.
The club kept the events lively and fun, and stressed the importance of families in events like these so that the next generation has positive role models. The organizers stressed education, along with a friendly, involved atmosphere and an involved student body, all moving toward a better future.
