My name is Brandé Faris and I am a San Diego Native who grew up in National City. I have attended City, Mesa, Miramar and Southwestern Community Colleges.
When I began attending community college, I immediately became involved with the student government, as well as many clubs.
I have held office in Student Government, serving as a Senator, a Student Justice on the Student Judicial Review Board, an Inter Club Council Representative, President, Vice President and Chapter Delegate of The Psi Beta International Psychology Honor Society, Vice President of Service for Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Vice President of the STAR Club and a founding, supporting and active member of the Child Development, Enviro (Environmental), A.B.L.E, Philosophy, Spanish, Honors, GLBTSU and Volunteer Clubs.
I have served my fellow students with pride and integrity.
I have impeccable references, and know that when you come to know me, you will see why I have the support of our current President, Clemente Valdez.
I volunteer in my community and have done so for years. I regularly volunteer at Malcolm X Library as a Tutor and also assist with many Volunteer San Diego projects, serving as a Team Leader. I also teach infant massage and offer my services as a Doula (labor and birth
assistant) and have done so for many years, often working with such programs as the Hearts and Hands Doula Program at UCSD, with Head Start and Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility. I value the experience of giving back and my life has been enriched throughout the process, being of service and growing as a result.
I want to be your President so that I am able to use my many years of experience in all these areas to more directly support the students of San Diego City College.
I am focused, passionate, intelligent, communicative, open minded and ready to give my all to ensure that I serve YOU as students in all I do, with integrity.
Some of the areas I am interested in continuing to work on include:
Addressing the recent budget cuts and the impact they are having on us all as California community college students
Implementing ways to lower costs of books
Lowering the costs of food for students while improving the quality
Increasing book loan programs
Being more environmentally conscious as a collective, campus-wide
Ensuring that the Student Government is a more visible presence on campus
Improving communication between ASG, clubs and the student body
Making more tutoring available for all students
Advocating for all but especially transfer students’ rights
Lobbying against budget cuts
Creating more scholarships
I am interested in what YOUR concerns as a student are and welcome your input in all areas. I truly seek to be the voice for all students, and I promise that I will ensure that YOUR voice is heard when I represent YOU, San Diego City College, as YOUR PRESIDENT.
A vote for me, Brandé Faris is a vote for positive change, conscious growth, and student advocacy, and so I ask for YOUR vote.
Let your voice be heard, and make your vote count!
Vote for Brandé Faris, your Visionary President at San Diego City College!
