San Diego City College Graduation will be held on May 21 in Balboa Park’s Spreckel’s Organ Pavilion at 6 p.m. Approximately 350 students will take part in the graduation commencement ceremony this year.
“Commencement is my favorite event of the school year,” City College President Terrence Burgess said. “We graduate nearly 1,200 students each year and I very much enjoy shaking every student’s hand as she/he walks across the stage at the Organ Pavilion to receive her/his degree.”
Among the graduates, City College student Charles Cook will be this years Chancellor’s Scholarship Recipient and will also be the student speaker at the ceremony.
This year City College hosted the Graduation Fair on May 3 and 4 in the Schwartz Square, which is located in front of the bookstore. Students were able to purchase graduation materials, from caps and gowns to graduation souvenirs.
May 19 is the last day for students to submit Intent to Participate forms. All students must have an intent form to purchase a cap and gown. Forms are available in the Evaluations Office.
A mandatory graduation rehearsal will be held at the Organ Pavilion starting at 3:30 p.m. on May 20, the day before the Commencement Ceremony.
The day of graduation students are advised to arrive at 3:30 p.m.
“Commencement reminds me in a powerful way why I chose a career in education,” said Burgess. “Congratulations to the class of 2010.”
The 40th annual Chicano Latina Graduation Celebration was held at City College’s Lyman Saville Theater on May 15.
