Update, Jan. 29, 5:15 p.m.: The story has been updated to reflect that the suspect has been apprehended and is awaiting due process, according to police.
Correction: The story below has been changed to reflect how the victim was initially tied to East Village Middle College High School as a student, and also includes the dispute of that information, which was shared in an email from EVMCHS principal Mitchell Booz to City College campus officials that was shared with City Times. City Times regrets the error.
Update, Jan. 25, 4:30 p.m.: The story has been updated to reflect the confirmation by email from Booz that EVMCHS students mentioned were witnesses. It added additional reporting about the nature of their involvement.
A 14-year-old high school student who was stabbed multiple times Friday on the campus of San Diego City College is expected to survive, according to San Diego Community College District police.
The teen was stabbed twice in the upper back, police said, and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The incident was witnessed by students from East Village Middle College High School, who were observed by a City Times reporter calling 9-1-1 while rendering first aid to the victim.

EVMCHS principal Mitchell Booz, in an email to City College officials that was shared with City Times, confirmed EVMCHS students were witnesses.
Booz, however, denied in the same email thread that the victim was a student at EVMCHS. The teen, who gave his age, pointed in the direction of EVMCHS when asked by a City Times reporter what school he was at prior to the incident.
East Village Middle College High School is a small non-traditional high school located on the north-west side of the campus of City College, according to its website.
A district-wide alert sent on Jan. 28 reported the suspect had been apprehended. According to the alert, a tip to SDCCD police led them to the Old Town Trolley Station, where they arrested the individual suspected of the assault.
The suspect is currently being processed for “assault with a deadly weapon,” the alert said, and the suspect is expected to be booked into jail.
The victim’s condition was not immediately known, but SDCCD Police Staff Sergeant Terry Lee Hiett said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
“We take these matters seriously,” said Marciano Perez, Jr., City College’s vice president of student services. “We’re lucky that we have police on campus. They respond very quickly.”
The stabbing occurred on Gorton Quad around 2:45 p.m. Witnesses and the victim said they did not know the suspect, who had been charging a mobile device on campus prior to the incident.
A district-wide alert described the suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic male in his mid-30s, 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a beard. An image shared in the alert showed the suspect wearing a blue hoodie with a handkerchief print, tan shorts, a black beanie hat and black shoes.
Police said the case is still under investigation, adding they believed it was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the general public.
Hiett said that in addition to SDCCD police, San Diego Unified School District police and the San Diego Police Department responded.
City College is open to students during intersession, which runs through Jan. 31. The spring term begins Feb. 3.
Hiett urged City College students to download the LiveSafe App or call (619) 388-6405 to reach College Police Dispatch with emergency and non-emergency calls.

Hello. This statement is false. The victim is not a student at EVMCHS. Unfortunately, the reporter involved did not connect with our staff and did not verify this claim before publishing this online story. Thanks.

Why was a 15 year old at City College? Are they a student at SD High? It seems odd that a 15 year old is hanging around Citty College and unsafe if it is an open campus.
