The San Diego City College Pride Hub reopened on January 15, 2025, after its abrupt closure in December of last year following the loss of its event coordinator.
Intercultural Counselor Jose Iniguez said the center is holding events once a month, but hopes to increase this amount once they hire another full-time staff member to serve more students. According to Iniguez, the hub has yet to see the number of students they were serving before closing.
“This was a center that, in my understanding, in previous semesters was full of students all the time,” Iniguez said. “We are happy with the turnout for our Valentine’s Day event, but we still hope to increase those numbers.”
Iniguez says the hub has been working to attract more students through collaborating with other departments, engaging on Instagram and working with more classes, including gender studies.

Diana Dubon, a student volunteer at the Pride Hub, said she believes students don’t show up because they don’t know the hub is back. The key to success, Dubon says, is creating a space where everyone is welcome.
“We are not here just for Pride, we also want to support women’s issues, and we want to support people who are first-generation,” Dubon said. “We are focused on building a community.”
If you are interested in visiting the Pride Hub, they are open Monday through Thursday from noon to 4:30 p.m. They will be holding an Internal Family System/Mapping Parts workshop on March 13, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pride Hub located at L-206.
