Seven of the Lady Knights athletic teams will be participating in the 2010 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 17.
For the past four years, the ladies of the City College Athletic Department have gathered together to participate in the annual walk and rally together as a department.
Kathy McGinnis, dean of health, exercise science and athletics, said participating in the event is a good way to build “camaraderie as the entire athletic department.”
On Saturday night before the event, all of the women’s teams are scheduled to gather for a sleep over at Golden Gymnasium to participate team-building competitions.
The next morning the participants, including some of the men’s athletic teams, meet in front of the gym prior to participating in the walk, which is taking place around Balboa Park.
McGinnis said that all of the coaches of the athletic department participate in giving back to the community but the Breast Cancer Walk is a good way to bring the various teams together as well as the college community.
Although it is the Lady Knights who have formed the team, McGinnis encourages others to join their team or donate to the cause. The team is hoping to raise a total of $2,500 and is accepting donations from the community.
