Without having to travel to Asia, groups like the Asian Coalition Club and House of China invite others to catch a glimpse of Asian culture in Balboa Park this weekend.
“It’s our gift to the public,” said President David Seid of House of China.
Taste of Asia is a two day celebration taking place Sept. 27 and Sept. 28. from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will showcase an array of Asian cultural traditions in the form of dance, music and food.
Festivities will take place in the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages at Balboa Park and feature a collective effort hosted by Houses of China, India, Korea and the Philippines.
The menu will feature popular dishes and more, such as Filipino lumpia and pancit, Indian samosa and curries, Chinese beef noodle soup and boba drinks and Korean Bibimbap (Saturday only).
Filled with live entertainment throughout the day, performances will include capturing expression through arts of language, song, movement, struggle and tradition.
On Saturday, look out for Chinese, Indian Bollywood, and Southern Sea Lion Dancers and a performance by singer Kathy Kim’s Korean Jindo Bukchum.
Sunday’s line up includes singer Melanie Jimenez from PASACAT Philippines Performing Arts Company, Tai-chi School Xiaman University performance, a cooking demonstration by East Eat College and Taiko drumming.
Activities such as children lantern crafts, Indian henna, Korean coloring dancheong fans, and calligraphy writing will also be offered.
