Have a holly, jolly night on the town

Christmas and New Year’s are just around the corner and San Diego has some events coming up that the typical college student will not want to miss out on. School can be stressful and finals are out of the way, so enjoy some time to soak in the holiday spirit.

Jungle Bells:
From Dec. 15 through Jan. 6 (except Dec. 24), the San Diego Zoo will have its parke transformed into a winter wonderland. There will be music, lights, fun and of course, animals. Every part of the park will have a theme and different festive activities to enjoy. For more information about this event visit the zoo’s website at www.sandiegozoo.org/junglebells.

Bonfire Nights: The Old Town State Historic Park will hold free evening events throughout the winter, beginning Dec. 15 and through Dec. 30. Carolers and other performances begin at dusk, with activities ending around 9 p.m. Free s’mores are shared around the bonfire each evening.

Poinsettia Bowl: The annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl will be played at Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley. Teams from the Mountain West and Mid-American Conferences will be pitted against each other Tickets range from $30 to $65.

New Year’s Eve Pub Crawl: On Tuesday, Dec. 31, the Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego will be ringing in the New Year with a New Year’s Eve Pub Crawl. With over a half dozen bars participating in this event, there will be many drink specials. So instead of being at one party, you can be at several places. If you get bored at one spot, you can move onto the next. This is a 21 and over event. LED presents OMFG: Electronic music promoters LED will hold their new years event, OMFG, at the Valley View Casino Center. It will be held on Dec. 30 and 31, with a lineup that includes Diplo, Boys Noize, Nero, Madeon and many more artists. LED brings some of the best DJs to San Diego, so OMFG is sure to be an event that you won’t want to miss. Although this is an 18+ event, alcohol will be served to attendees with a valid photo i.d. On both days, doors will open at 9 p.m. and the performances will end at 4 a.m. For ticket and other information, visit their website at mylifeeveryday.com/2013/11/omfg-nye-2014-valley-view-casino-center.
