6 resources City College students can add to their survival manual

Here’s a list of essential services, offerings for students to take advantage of

The San Diego City College fall 2024 semester has begun and attending classes hasn’t gotten any cheaper.

For example, according to the City College Student Accounting Office, the price for nonresident tuition increased from $331 to $356 for the fall 2024 semester, an increase of $25.

Non-resident students account for 10% of the student population, according to SDCCD Demographics.

Regardless, $25 makes the difference between a student being able to afford a meal or not.

City College provides a variety of services and amenities for attending students. Here are six that will save you money this semester.

Digital Freebies

Just having a San Diego City College student email gives you access to a variety of benefits. Available to all students is a free subscription to Microsoft Office 365, as well as discounts on various online services, including Spotify and Amazon Prime.

Basic Needs Center

The Basic Needs Center provides multiple services located in the T Building. Here, students can grab free lunches from the Knight’s Food Table Pantry, get free repurposed clothing at Knight’s Threads and Things, and even get a free haircut at Fresh Cutz with proof of FAFSA completion.

You can find the food pantry’s updated hours on the Basic Needs Center’s Instagram.

Library

Located in the R Building, the library offers more to students than just books and a quiet study area. Books and laptops are available for rent. Students also get a free subscription to the New York Times.

Visit the library’s FAQ to learn more.

The Tutorial/Learning Center

The Tutorial/Learning Center provides free tutoring to all City College students for various courses throughout the day. It also provides students with online tutoring seven days a week.

To know which subjects are offered, visit the TLC’s webpage. You can also book an appointment in person at L-205.
