As students at San Diego City College begin to complete their transfer applications, a new partnership helps to support their process.
San Diego State University’s transfer partnership with the San Diego Community College District was announced over the summer, guaranteeing admission for students applying for fall 2026.
To qualify, students must receive an Associate’s Degree for Transfer from an SDCCD campus in a specified field, be California State University eligible, and meet other minimum requirements, according to a July press release and confirmed by Erin Charlens, City’s Transfer Center coordinator.
In fall 2024, 90.5% of transfer students at City were accepted into CSUs, Charlens said at the Transfer Workshop 101 event in mid-September.
“That’s an A,” she said. “This is really strong. I love sharing this with our students.”
This partnership has the potential to help students like Montserrat Hernandez, a City College Child Development major who attended Charlens’ workshop.
Hernandez said SDSU is her top choice.
”I was looking into the ADT, “ Hernandez said, “since I’m doing my associate degree and then (transfering).
“I’m still going to see what it’s about and if I’m eligible for it. But yeah, definitely I’ll be looking into that and see if it works.”
Students can stay up-to-date with transfer news and information by keeping in touch with their counselor regularly, Charlens said.
“Always make sure you’re good with your backyard campuses (like SDSU) because you never know what happens,” she said.
Applications for fall admission for CSUs open from Oct. 1-Nov. 30.
