San Diego City College’s World Cultures Program will host Dr. Marisol Clark-Ibáñez for a lecture and author Q&A session on Monday.
Clark-Ibáñez, a sociology professor at Cal State San Marcos, recently published her second book, “Undocumented Latino Youth: Navigating Their Worlds,” and will talk about it to City College faculty and students. The event will be held in MS-162 and will run from 9:35-11:35 a.m.
“She’s a fierce advocate for social justice and Latina communities,” said Dr. Maria-José Zeledón-Peréz, co-director of World Cultures and City College communication studies professor. “She really focuses on issues surrounding Latino students and trying to close equity gaps to help students succeed in higher education.”
“(The book) doesn’t just talk about DACA students. It also talks about undocumented and what that means and what their journeys are.”
This book is aimed at readers interested in social issues and social justice, according to Zeledón-Perez.
“It destigmatized the whole issue of what it means to be undocumented,” Zeledón-Peréz said. “(It) is hoping for more education and less discrimination.”
All World Cultures events on campus are open and free to students and anyone in the community.
