San Diego City College students should prepare now if they want to enroll in summer courses. At City College alone, 221 course sections are available for the term, according to mySDCCD portal.

Some of the subjects scheduled to be offered at City this summer include art, English, geology, health and mathematics. Those interested in getting involved in journalism can start by enrolling in DJRN 100.

According to Marciano Perez, Dean of Student Affairs, most classes will remain remote for this summer as the San Diego Community College District tries to deal with pandemic challenges.

However, some classes that are hard to convert will be on campus. Certain lab classes such as machine technology will partially be back on campus in a hybrid format. Exercise science classes are also scheduled to take place at Harry West Gym, Morley Field and the Fitness Center.

The SDCCD will offer 921 courses in a term that will begin June 7 and run until August 14. Classes will run as long as 8 weeks and cost $46 per unit.

Financial Aid will be available and veterans will still receive their benefits.

There are various services available all summer long, such as Hunger Action Day. This event occurs every first Tuesday and last Monday of the month. The laptop loaner program will be available through City College’s website, sdcity.edu. Click on the City Chromebook Loaner Program link.

Other programs that will be available are the Math Academy and Extended Opportunities Programs and Services, also known as EOPS.

For new college students registering at City, there will be a program called PERG 110 sponsored by EOPS. This 6-week class will teach students community building and self-empowerment skills.

PERG 110 is a transition to college course which creates a network of support from peers and staff to ready students for the fall semester. It starts the last week of June.
