Four members of The Opera of Tijuana came to San Diego City College in collaboration with the World Cultures program on Oct. 5.

On a cloudy afternoon, approximately 50 students and faculty gathered in Curran Plaza at City College to witness a performance given by Norma Navarrete, Ameyali Escobar, Alberto Estanol of The Opera of Tijuana with Ivan Mares playing the piano.

The opera singers performed several arias and duets from multiple acts within the opera’s main performance. Though the songs and acts were not named, the audience was given a synopsis of what each of the performances was about.

The songs, which were sung in Spanish, were centered around the themes of love, art, passion and dreams. It was easy to get a sense of what each song was about through the actions of each of the performers. The passion for this type of music was easy to see.

Each act received a round of applause from the audience.
