Amber Alatorre, the chair of City College’s counseling department, joined City Times Media journalist Varun Chaturvedi to provide insight on the new course numbering system, which was rolled out for the 2025-26 academic year.

According to Alatorre, the new system was designed to allow all 116 California community colleges, which serve over 2 million students, to share the same course numbers.

“It’s a method that is going to make course completion and transferring (to 4-year colleges and universities) easier for college students,” said Alatorre on “Inside City.”

“It also has what we call the crosswalk (with) the old course information and what the new course numbering system is so that students can find that,” Alatorre said to Chaturvedi.

Students are highly encouraged to visit the counseling department in A-366 for any questions about the new course numbering system.

Counselors can also be found in EOPS and DSPS.

The overhaul is expected to be completed by July 1, 2027.
