Students receive distinguished awards for journalism

The San Diego City College Digital Journalism program won prestigious awards at the 2014 Southern Calif. conference for Journalism Association of Community Colleges at Cal State Fullerton Oct. 18.
Sports editor David Pradel won second place for Magazine Profile Story and copy editor Jennifer Manalili won second place for Magazine Opinion Story for Legend magazine.
Christopher Handloser, former editor-in-chief of City Times, received third place for Column Writing for City Times. The City Times news website received general excellence for online journalism.
Legend magazine and City Times also won several awards from the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists including Arts/Entertainment Story, Review/Critique and Layout and Design for a Story or Series.
Additionally, City Times received a ribbon for Best News and an award for excellence from the San Diego County Fair in June.

Journalism’s always fun. But when you think about it, who’d really want a Pulitzer? Many Pulitzer’s are handed out for outstanding reporting of terrible world events: wars, catastrophic weather, and horrible diseases and epidemics.
Interesting, isn’t it?
