Graduation is quickly approaching for those City College students earning their AA degrees or certificates of achievement.

City College will be holding its graduation ceremony from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fr iday, May 20, at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. A total of 1,058 associate degrees and 587 certificates of achievements are to awarded that night.

The San Diego Community College District notes that it has seen a 45 percent increase in degrees presented since 2014 thanks to an information campaign launched called “Earn More Than A Degree.”

This campaign has been part of a larger, district wide effort to double the number of students who earn a degree or certificate over the next six years.

Issanna Loughman will be one of the speakers at the graduation. Once homeless,the psychology major was one of just 20 students across the nation named to the 2016 All- USA Community College Academic Team.

She is on the Dean’s List and has been inducted into two national honor societies, Psi Beta and Phi Theta Kappa.

There will be Grad Success Workshops for graduating City College students.

They will provide employment tools and transfer information and a look into the future as a City College alumni. The workshop dates include May 11 at 1 p.m. and May 17 at 3 p.m. in M-101.

The graduation rehearsal will be Thursday, May 19, at 3:30 p.m. at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park.

Graduation announcements and invitations are available in the bookstore as well as a cap and gown.
