Search for the next San Diego City College District chancellor underway
Applications and nominations are being accepted
September 24, 2020
The San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees has posted the Chancellor Profile and is now accepting applications and nominations for the position to replace Constance Carroll.
Back in January, Carroll, who has been chancellor since 2004, announced that she will be retiring in June 2021.
The chancellor oversees San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, as well as the San Diego Continuing Education program.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for conducting the search for the new chancellor and are “committed to conducting an equitable, fair, inclusive, and transparent national search.”
The board has established a search committee of faculty members, community representatives and classified professionals to review the applications and help identify final candidates.
The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) has been selected by the board to assist with the chancellor search process. The national non-profit organization has over 40 years of experience in community college executive searches.
The Chancellor Profile application has been developed by using an electronic survey, which invited the SDCCD community to decide on qualities and qualifications of the next chancellor.
“The successful candidate is expected to make a long-term commitment to the District and continue the development and implementation of a common vision developed through participatory governance processes in the best interests of all students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators,” according to the Chancellor Profile. “The ideal candidate will be an innovative, entrepreneurial, energetic, and proven leader.”
The target date for receiving applications is Nov. 17.
After conducting a second round of interviews and open forums, the Board of Trustees will announce the new chancellor in late March 2021.
