President Joe Biden addressed Congress for the first time just shy of his first 100 days in office on Wednesday, April 28.

Biden covered many topics, including the ongoing pandemic, vaccinations, economy and child care. Education was also a key topic he addressed. 

The president made a promise to make community college tuition-free for two years that would benefit young Americans.

This address can be seen in this week’s episode of Newscene, the award-winning student-produced weekly newscast.

A similar program is already in effect in San Diego Community College District. The San Diego Promise Grant, started in 2016, helps to pay for recent high school graduates and GED recipients in the first two years of community college.

“If President Biden’s effort succeeds, then we will have much greater flexibility to reach many, many more students,” Chancellor Constance Carroll said in an interview with ABC10.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Biden also addressed the handling of his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package by his administration as, “one of the greatest logistical achievements the country’s ever seen.”
