The San Diego Board of Supervisors passed a vote of no confidence against Supervisor Nathan Fletcher at a special meeting on Tuesday.

The vote is a move to put pressure on Fletcher to resign immediately.

“We are not able to remove Supervisor Fletcher from office,” said Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer at the meeting. “That is something only he can do. He must resign. We cannot do that for him, but very happy that my colleague and our leader chairwoman (Nora) Vargas brought this resolution today.”

Fletcher announced he would be resigning from his role to seek treatment for PTSD and alcohol abuse two weeks ago. His official date of resignation is effective May 15 at 5 p.m.

After the resignation was announced, Fletcher was accused of sexual misconduct in a lawsuit filed by former MTS employee Grecia Figueroa. A few days later, one of Fletcher’s former interns accused him of improper behavior. He denies the allegations.

The Board of Supervisors will discuss the replacement options to fill Fletcher’s seat at their next meeting on May 2. This will either be done via an appointment or special election.
