The Knights women’s volleyball team dropped their second straight match 0-3 (25-27,17-25,19-25) on Oct. 19 to the five-time defending Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champion Grossmont College Griffins, falling to a record of 9-8 overall and 2-2 in divisional play.

From the onset the atmosphere at Harry West Gymnasium felt like it was playoff time as the ladies were all visibly hyped up for what was one of the biggest games of the year.

The first game was a nail-biter that went down to the final point. Both squads looked locked in as the score went back and forth, with neither team going up by more than two points. The Knights went up 24-22 but couldn’t muster a final point to close it out.

From the second game on, the Knights struggled to find their groove in their offensive sets and looked outmatched on defense.

The Griffins were just bigger and better on this night.

Knights star outside hitter, sophomore Chloe Gruwell failed to reach double-digit kills in a match for the first time since a loss at Long Beach on Oct. 5, as she only had eight in this game.

On a positive note, the Knights got back to their winning ways two days laer, Oct. 21, at Southwestern College (2-13). It was a dominant performance by the Knights as they won in a shutout 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-20)

With over half of the season done, the Knights could use a statement game and they can start by avenging their loss at Mesa in the Knights’ next home game Nov. 2 in the Harry West Gymnasium. Game time 5 p.m.
