The San Diego City College men’s basketball team will hit the road to face off against Los Angeles Valley College in the third round of the Southern California Regional playoffs on March 27 at 7 p.m.

The 11th-seeded Knights (25-5) are on a seven-game winning streak and are coming off a huge 63-61 win over last year’s state champions, Fullerton College.

“We don’t really look back on previous games,” said guard Dominic Hovasse after City’s playoff opener against Los Angeles Southwest last month. “We just try to bring the same energy every game and take it one game at a time and the rest takes care of itself.”

As for the No. 3 seed Los Angeles Valley Monarchs (24-5), they are coming off a 75-71 win against the No. 14 seed San Bernardino Valley College.

The Monarchs are led by sophomore guard Micah Cooper, who is averaging 18.2 points per game and sophomore guard Kody Knox’s 13.2 points per game.

The Knights currently average 88.4 points and 44.5 rebounds per game, while the Monarchs score 75.4 points with 37.7 rebounds per game.

This will be the Knights’ third appearance in the Sweet 16 in the last four years.

The winner of Saturday night’s game will head to the state championship quarterfinal, which will be held at West Hills College Lemoore from March 13-15.
