The San Diego City College women’s volleyball  team is setting up for a busy schedule in October.

The Knights will play seven matches, including six at home. Five straight are home matches during a two-week stretch starting on Oct. 5.

All are scheduled for 5 p.m.

City currently sits with a record of 5-6 overall, but in its last five matches, the Knights are 4-1, including four straight set sweeps in that span.

City is currently sitting in third place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference at 4-1.

This is the Knights’ first season under new head coach Audra Dent, who was announced as head coach on March 16 in a press release on the City College athletics website.

“Coming in as a new coach, it’s always a challenge to kind of create your own program,” Dent said. “So that’s what we’re working on as a unit. I’ve seen a ton of improvement both individually and as a whole group. The team seems to be enjoying competing, practicing and training together.”

The volleyball team didn’t have the best of starts to the season.

City opened with a four-game losing skid and a 1-5 start overall, but things started to turn around for the team in the month of September.

“We definitely had a rough start, but we’re definitely getting in the groove,” sophomore Ashley Davies said. “We’re coming into practice every day working hard and it’s all coming together.”

The Knight’ five-game home stand starts on Wednesday, October 4 at 5 p.m. against Grossmont (9-3, 4-0) and Friday night against Mesa College (12-2. 3-1).
