Four San Diego City College drama students had just completed a performance of a moving one-act play about social justice entitled “How We Talk About Racism” when another student announced the verdict in the case of Derek Chauvin was about to be read.

On the tenth day after the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, over a thousand people took part in a protest at Waterfront Park. The protest on June 6 was completely peaceful with people from all races gathered.

National protests have taken place over the past week, former ASG president Oscar Rendon explained the protestors want to “bring light” onto reports that black people face severe sentences and are even killed for minor offenses, or sometimes alleged minor offenses, as was the case of George Floyd.
