The 19th anniversary of 9/11 was commemorated here in San Diego with a memorial service streamed live from the upper deck of the USS Midway Museum on Sept. 11.

The service was featured in the first Newscene broadcast of the semester produced remotely by the students of the Radio, Television and Film program at San Diego City College.

The Valley Fire sparked during Labor Day weekend displaced hundreds of residents in San Diego County. A National Weather Service meteorologist told Newscene reporter Jesus Lopez what we can expect this wildfire season.

And while evacuation orders for the Valley Fire were lifted, Noelle Mortensen gave City College students some crucial items to have prepared for the next time our community is faced with another emergency.

Here is a sampling of other stories covered in the show:

  •  A new tool that allows voters to track their ballots in the lead-up to the Nov. 3 Presidential Election was shared by the County Registrar of Voters.
  • Amazon will host a virtual job fair on Sept. 16 for positions with salaries expected to average $150,000.
  • The 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan have been moved to July 23, 2021. Details like whether or not fans will be permitted will be announced at a later date.
  • The Walking Dead Season 11, which will air in 2021, will be the last for the popular show.

Staff Writers Assad Khalilzadeh, Chris Lefall, Jesus Lopez, Sandra Masori, Noelle Mortensen, Kyle Ovenshire contributed to this report.
