The fall season of CT Sound opened today with the debut episode of The Listening Machine, available on the City Times website and everywhere podcasts are found.

Podcast host Jakob McWhinney looked at how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the lives of San Diegans.

In the episode, a woman struggled with feelings of judgment and being judged, and a man thought he caught the virus early on at a music trade show.

“The lung thing, that was 100% true,” the caller named Dave said. “Every time you would breathe, it was like opening a grilled cheese sandwich and closing it back up.”

Another caller and his brother talked about the effects of COVID-19 on his sense of smell and taste plus explored what booze had to do with it.
