The Fine Art Gallery at San Diego City College opened a new exhibit last month titled “Mindful,” but you’d be hard-pressed to see it.

The exhibit opened on Feb. 9 with an artist reception in the evening, but every day since, the gallery has only been open Tuesday-Thursday from noon-4 p.m.

Sarah Garcia, a lab tech for the gallery and ceramics program at City College, said the gallery was looking into ways to expand visiting hours, but staffing issues prevented them from opening on more days.

The gallery committee has no concrete plans to expand the visiting hours, but Garcia said that getting more students to view the art is their No. 1 priority.

“I think it’s an important place to be able to take a moment and go into this space, and read about the artists and see the work, and find at least one point of connection,” Garcia said.

Appointments can be made to see the gallery outside of normal visiting hours, Garcia said.

“That‘s much more flexible, because we can make accommodations,” Garcia said.

The “Mindful” exhibit closes March 16.
