REVIEW: “Countdown”

“Countdown” makes sure you always read your terms and conditions.

I’ve just recently watched the new-age horror film “Countdown” and it was pretty solid. I didn’t know how dying from a cursed cell phone app would work but, surprisingly, it did. And it was entertaining.

The movie takes place in a small suburban town and follows the charter Quinn Harris, played by Elizabeth Lail. She’s at a party when she and her friends all decide to download an app that supposedly tells you when your going to die and things begin to take a turn for the worse from there.

The movie is jump-scare-filled, it’ll leave you fully attentive throughout the whole film. It is centered around Harris and Matt Monroe, played by Jordan Calloway, as they try to undo their fate of the cursed app that only gives them a few days to live.

Lail and Calloway both did good jobs in depicting certain scenes as far as showing how someone would really react to a situation like this. Some of the dialogue was kind of cheesy but what else would you expect from a horror film made for a teenage audience.

I liked that the movie was actually scary and they brought a new approach to the horror genre. It was kind of fresh. However, I didn’t like the fact that the movie had major plot holes that made you wishing for more.

The lesson is the movie is, simply: read the terms and agreements before you download an app. It might save your life.

This is a solid film, worth your time and money. It’s definitely for a younger audience but i feel like older people could enjoy it also. The movie is rated R.
