The World Brand Design Society ranked San Diego City College 10th internationally for the Best Design Education Institution of 2020-21.

The WBDS provides students and young designers all over the globe a platform to showcase their work, as well as gain scholarships to support their future endeavours in the world of design, according to the WBDS website.

Graphic Design professor Sean Bacon called it “extremely humbling.’

“We’ve been a really strong program for around almost 30 years,” Bacon said in an interview. “It was a whole other level seeing us recognized on an international stage.”

Bacon was surprised since the rankings are based on contest submissions from students privately. The awards were based on the entries of former City College student Archana Verma.

“Excellent use of visual cues more recognizable from high-fashion and design publication, applied to a hardcore science publication – execution is superb and very engaging,” wrote judge Jos Harrison, Brand Experience & Design Global Head of Reckitt Benckiser.

Bacon had no idea that Verma submitted their work. When he opened up his email, he was shocked to see City College ranked.

With this award, Bacon thinks it will encourage City College design students to work harder and push their creativity.
