The event aims to increase awareness and familiarity with mental health services on campus

Kimberly Lesnick, a therapist at San Diego City College is promoting mental health services in the Student Health Center on May 7, from noon to 1 p.m.

The event will bring awareness of the mental health services provided on campus, with tours, snacks and games for attendees.

Lesnick hopes to encourage all students, especially veteran students, to be comfortable going to the mental health center.

“I want to increase the comfort for our veterans so that they can navigate their way to making appointments,” Lesnick said.

All of this is made possible by the recently approved $150,000 grant, which provides a dedicated veteran counselor, training and outreach.

The grant also provides specialized training for counselors to address the unique issues veterans face. Lesnick said some faculty are already showing interest.

“There’s a number of interested therapists in supporting veterans,” Lesnick said.
