New structure reduces parking headaches

A new parking structure has opened up this semester, alleviating the stress many students face when arriving to school.

Located in the new MS building, on C Street between 15th and 16th, the structure adds an additional 398 spots for students and and staff members.

Another fairly new parking structure is located in the Career Technology Center (V building). Picou referred to this 10-story parking structure as the “golden ticket” because with 654 parking spots, there is always parking available for students and staff.

“We definitely have enough parking now,” said Debra Picou, parking supervisor for San Diego Community College District.

She noted that the lot has only been completely full two times. Picou’s advice for students who struggle with parking is, “If you can’t find a spot, go to the V building.”

So far the new structure seems to be helping with the traffic and parking on campus. “I do like the new parking structure, it helps out a lot,” said Business major James Swan.

Picou said there are no plans regarding new structures at this time. The construction that is underway is only for new buildings and will not have any parking.

All parking structures and lots require a permit Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Parking permits for the semester are $35 and can be purchased at the accounting office on campus or online through Reg-e. Daily permits are only available in the V building for $1.00/hour or $5.00/day.
