Hearing for broadcast engineer postponed

The preliminary hearing for City’s chief broadcast engineer has been postponed until April 21.

Gerald “Larry” Quick was arrested Feb. 10 for the theft of four video cameras and is charged with felony grand theft. He was released on $17,000 bail on Feb. 18.

His preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for Feb. 25 but he changed lawyers and requested a postponement to prepare his defense.

Quick ran the TV studio and the control room besides serving as chief broadcast engineer for the campus radio station, KSDS. He was a 30-plus year employee of the San Diego Community College District.

The four video cameras, valued at around $20,000, were stolen during the winter break. Campus police checked pawn shops and found them at two shops downtown. The cameras have been subsquently returned to the Communication Department, where they are used in several classes.
