City College hosting CalFresh specialists to assist students with applications

General assistance for applying, current cases will be available on campus

The Basic Needs Center at San Diego City College will host two CalFresh specialists to assist students in applying for CalFresh on Sept. 28 from 12-2 p.m. in room T-341D.

CalFresh, a California governmental program, provides financial means for accessing healthy and nutritious food for low-income citizens who meet federal income eligibility rules.

The program provides monthly benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card to those who qualify.

CalFresh Outreach Coordinator Molly Thong and Outreach Specialist Lizbeth Jimenez were at City College for their first of two visits assisting students with their CalFresh needs on Sept.14.

As she was setting up their workspace, Thong said they were there to “help folks apply for CalFresh and with any general problems they have with CalFresh and can help troubleshoot and call the County on their behalf.”

The program outreach staff will also help students with their existing CalFresh cases.

Students can confirm their eligibility by visiting the San Diego County website sandiegocounty.gov

City College also recommends students take the basic needs survey to help connect them with resources related to their personal needs. For additional support, students can also visit the Basic Needs Center located in T-341 and visit their webpage.
