Correction: This story has been changed to reflect the completion window of the student housing facility at City College. It is expected in April 2028. City Times regrets the error.
A fence will be put up around the perimeter of the 16th and C open-air parking lot in the coming weeks in preparation for the construction of the new student housing facility, campus officials confirmed.
Students will lose access to over 125 spots in Lot 5 that have been available since the start of the spring 2025 semester, and can expect parking on campus to become limited as a result of this project.
Parking is not currently included in the plans for the build, according to documents available to City Times Media.
Associated Student Government President Celina Martinez announced the news in an ASG meeting on Oct. 8.
Said Martinez: “Another announcement relating to Measure HH, specifically bond projects, the parking lot by 16th and C will be fenced off.”
ASG Health, Safety and Environmental Officer Savannah Breaker shared the timeline in the same meeting.
“The fencing will be going up either the last week of this month, so the fourth week of October, or the first week of November,” Breaker said.
City College Vice President of Administrative Services John Parker confirmed both announcements in an email to City Times Media the following week.
“As of (Oct. 14), parking lot 5 will be fenced off from early to mid-November,” Parker said.
Construction on the new 8-story student housing complex project at City College is anticipated to be finished in April 2028.
