Core of women’s tennis team returning

The Lady Knights tennis team of City College had a brilliant beginning of the season starting conference play, 4-0, before their first loss. However, during the end of the season the team lost some steam and finished third in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, with a record of 7-3.

All six starters for the Lady Knights qualified for the state championship at the Ojai, however not one player was able to advance to the next round of play.

Head coach Jami Jones said she believes that next season could be a breakthrough year since many of her top seeds are returning.

“Palia (Griffin), Desiree (Wilson), and Brianna (Leigh-Pink) will all be back next year along with redshirt Brianna Hooks from the year before,” said Jones.

With the top three seeded players on the team returning with a year of experience, they could make a run and challenge for the PCAC title.
