As the San Diego City College 2025-26 athletic season comes to a close, many of City’s student-athletes and coaches have been recognized for their achievements in their respective sports.

At a College Council meeting on April 21, the head coach of the women’s tennis team, Jami Yonekura-Jones, was presented with her third Coach of the Year award by City College President Ricky Shabazz.

“I don’t know if anyone was here when I started, but we did not have a lot of success in the beginning,” Yonekura-Jones said. “So this is really, very rewarding to me that we are having it now. I’m so appreciative of everyone (at the meeting), and all the support that we get from the school and my girls did an amazing job.”
