Award winning author to visit City College to discuss her new novel

Award winning author Rebecca Makkai will visit San Diego City College as part of One Book, One San Diego, where she will be discussing her most recent novel, “The Great Believers”, followed by a book signing.

“The Great Believers” chronicles the AIDS crisis through a novel of friendship and redemption set in 1980s Chicago and contemporary Paris. 

The novel alternates between two characters and the impact the AIDS epidemic has on their life in both past and present.

Makkai’s novel won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, Stonewall Barbara Gittings Literature Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.

One Book, One San Diego is a literary program presented in partnership by KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations and educational institutions that encourages everyone to read and discuss the same book.

The event will be held at the Saville Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 18 with the discussion taking place at 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., and a book signing afterwards from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public and copies of “The Great Believers” will be for sale.
