GAMING: 2XKO launches in early access (with video)

Riot’s League of Legends tag-fighter releases to the public

Riot Games’ early access release of 2XKO has just updated to patch notes 1.0.3 as of Nov. 18. The game has been out for over a month and is gaining momentum in the fighting game community.

Following the closed beta, which ran from Sept. 9 to Oct. 7, early access is free and available on PC to everyone interested in playing.

2XKO is a two-versus-two tag-team fighter set in the universe of Riot’s more popular intellectual property, League of Legends.

As a tag-fighter, the game encourages playing with your friends and teaming up to compete against other teams, but the option to play solo is still available.

Season 0 released with the addition of newcomers Teemo and Warwick, as well as some buffs and nerfs for existing characters.

For those more interested in the competitive fighting game community (FGC) side of 2XKO, Riot Games is partnering with local tournament organisers (TOs) to enhance the competitive scene.

They dub this collaboration First Impact. A list of tournament organisers and their events will be available throughout the remainder of 2025.

San Diego City College accounting student Luis Valenzuela sees multiple upsides to the Riot’s tournament collaboration.

“I feel like that’s a great opportunity to just meet a whole new community, make friends, maybe even make some money while you’re out here,” Valenzuela said. “Who knows, maybe even get endorsements or sponsors. It could take it to the next level.”

Riot is also incentivising teaming up with a partner, as there will be a bonus $2,500 to any duo team that comes in first place.
