City Times reporter Jesus Lopez was back at San Diego City College’s Hunger Action Day, taking home food donated this time by San Diego Food Bank.

Lopez took home two boxes and a bag, with produce like zucchini, oranges, green pears and red onions. The box also included powdered milk, raw oats, wheat bread, pasta sauce and tube pasta. It even included dairy milk, orange juice and butter.

“This one was fun,” Lopez said.

Lopez made a lentil soup with the onions, potatoes and carrots from his box. He made a potato salad with more carrots, adding his own eggs and mayo.  On the side, he served white rice and sauteed zucchini. Lopez had leftover chicken teriyaki, but the soup could have been the main entree, either with meat like leftover ham or vegetarian.
