A Day for Diana, April 30

Visionary Feminists is hosting an event educating others on sexual assault and domestic violence in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Diana Gonzales.

Gonzales was a 19-year-old student when she was murdered after leaving her class at City College by her estranged husband on on Oct 12, 2010. This event brings awareness and conversation about stopping domestic violence in all forms.

Every nine seconds a woman is assaulted in the U.S., according to statistics provided by the Visionary Feminists Club.

Find “A Day for Diana” located in MS-164 from 11:10 a.m. to 2:05 p.m on Thursday, April 30.

Grady O’Brien, a sociology student, explains the significance and importance of why they are attending.

“I am going because we often don’t give survivors space to talk about their experiences.” O’Brien said. “We objectify the victim, and that is all they are. This event allows us to hear from those who are not just victims. They are people. Just to let them speak and be heard is reason enough to go.”

May Day @ City College, May 1

An incentive for no school, no work, and no shopping is highlighted as a reminder to recognize the hard work and efforts of individuals in all communities.

The event will be from 12:30-4 p.m. in the Curran Plaza on Friday, May 1.
