Artist and educator Shirin Towfiq gave a guest lecture to San Diego City College art students via Zoom on Sept. 13. Towfiq, a child of refugees from Iran, began her journey as an artist at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, where she took a photography class. Several of her pieces are on display at the City College Art Gallery through Oct. 6.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, suicide is the second leading cause of death in the United States for people between the age of 10 and 43.  During September, National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and all year long, San Diego City College Student Mental Health is working to lessen the stigma around suicide.
