The San Diego City College women’s basketball team extended their three-game winning streak by defeating Palo Verde, 76-46, at Harry West Gym on Dec. 6.

The Knights (5-3) returned from a 78-37 blowout win over Saddleback College in the final game of the Knights Invitational on Nov. 18 to dominate the court once again against Palo Verde (2-8).

The Knights were led by freshman point guard D’Ajanae Lewis, who controlled the court and finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine steals.

Lewis said the team has been training hard since their last game over two weeks ago.

“(We were) getting in the gym every day, nonstop,” she said.

Freshman guard Christina Bowen put up 20 points, sophomore guard Cusha Landry had 15 and sophomore guard A’sontee Jackson returned to play her first game since suffering a knee injury last year to score eight.

Head coach Andrea Aguilar-Montalba said she was happy with the win but not satisfied with the play. She thinks the team can do more.

“We move the ball really well, ” Aguilar-Montalban said. “We’re always looking for the open person, which is something that you don’t get all the time. But I think we overpass sometimes and we’re not more of a threat … because we’re all very capable.”

The Knights will play Compton College next at home as part of the Knights Krossover on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
