The San Diego City College women’s basketball team (1-2) took its first win of the season at home with a 74-48 sweep over the El Camino Warriors (0-4) on Nov. 11.

Despite their continuous effort to catch up in points to the Knights, the Warriors never led in the game.

The Knights played defensively as they were able to grab 24 rebounds from El Camino, limiting their shooting percentage.

This was the first time this season that all players made it on the scoreboard with the reserves, scoring a total of 15 points at the end of the game.

After recovering from a knee injury last season, sophomore Dahlia Blake led the Knights with a total of 19 points,14 rebounds and four assists.

“Forget the points. I’m glad that I was able to rebound,” Blake said. “Rebounds win games.”

From the beginning of the game, the Knights were going in fast, with moments in which the team needed to slow down, according to Blake.

“Sometimes we just go in too fast for our own feet. (To) regroup so we play the way we know how to play.” Blake said.

Sophomore Ellissa St. Julien racked up a total of 17 points, 3 rebounds and five assists, becoming the second-ranked scorer of the game.

The women’s basketball team will be playing against Citrus at 5 p.m. at Harry West Gym on Nov. 14.
